Looking at the result, you’re thinking “darn!”. After being told that Arsenal lost their game, Chelsea drew their, and so did Man U, you’re thinking “*&!@”. In one way, it’s a good thing, since now Man U/Chelsea/Arsenal didn’t gain anything on Liverpool, but on the other hand, if Liverpool had won, they could have been sitting on top now. Chelsea and Man U aren’t gonna slip up too many times (Arsenal…are probably gonna slip up lots more), so when they do, Liverpool need to grab the bull by the horns and pull themselves top. Did they try to do that with th performance at Fulham?? Hmmm….well…i guess they sorta tried to do it. They didn’t have that awesome passing motion that they usually have had this season, many people crediting that to the absence of Alonso, who was on the bench. I thought that if Alonso started, he could have made a difference, but Benitez said that Alonso didn’t start because he was tired from international duty. So his place was taken by Lucas, who hasn’t been playing for awhile. In my opinion, Benitez should have started Alonso, because even if he’s tired, Alonso could have played 100 times better than Lucas did. Liverpool didn’t play badly though, just not as well as they usually play. Gerrard was missing from action, because of an injury, and maybe his presence was what was needed. Liverpool got few decent chances, but the ones that they got (like Keane one-on-one with the keeper) were wasted. Torres looked like he was trying hard, but sometimes you just need a bit of luck at the end, which Liverpool did not get. I’m not syaing Fulham deserved to lose, because they played very well. To come to Anfield and perform well is not something all teams can do, but they did it, and they even often scared Liverpool fans in front of Reina’s goal, with Bullard forcing a stretch from the keeper with one long range shot. All in all, could have been a better Liverpool performance. Rafa thinks it’s an opportunity missed, and Fulham boss Roy Hodgson is happy. Match Reports Here, Here, and Here (Fulham Perspective). Torres said in an interview recently that he has plans to go back to Atletico in order to “take care of unfinished business”. Alright, it’s pretty acceptable, I mean, he was practically treated like a God there before he came to Liverpool last season. Good news for Liverpool fans, Torres has ruled out a transfer anytime soon. Still, none of us want him to ever leave, do we?

“I hope to experience many things still, but for me it (Atletico) is an exceptional club,” said Torres.

“I don’t know if I will retire there, but I would like to go back and finish some things that are left to do.

“When I was there I couldn’t do any more, but I would like to go back.”

He added: “Right now I have no plans to leave England. Not to Spain, not to Italy, not to another English club.”

It starts off with Gerrard getting ready for the 2006 World Cup, talks about his family, his friends, and obviously his football (Champions league and Premier League campaigns of the season). A Must Watch For Any Liverpool Fan.

The game was great to watch. Although Liverpool didn’t have a dominant start, everything else was. West Brom, with the likes of Ishmael Miller and Roman Bednar, challenged Pepe Reina only a few times. The main problem with WBA was their passing. They kept giving Liverpool the ball, and fortunately, Liverpool were able to use these chances. Goals from Keane came at the 34th minute and at the 43rd minute, while near the end, in the 93rd minute, Arbeloa added another (his second goal for Liverpool) to make the scoreline shine. This win brings Liverpool back on top, since Chelsea have not played their match yet. If Chelsea win, its back to being second for Liverpool. Well…I haven’t updated the blog in almost a month. Got sorta busy and then started procrastinating (like “i’ll do it tomorrow”).

Finally decided to stop procrastinating. I haven’t written about the last 5 matches. So let’s get down to business :

Atletico Madrid (First Leg…In Madrid)….Liverpool Draw And The Vincent Calderon

Match Report Here. Overall it was an exciting game, but Keane’s Goal did look to be offside, although Benayoun scored later (not offside, but was ruled to be). Atletico Scored twice in the game (both legitimate, but one was not given…again…offside).

Chelsea (Away At Stamford Bridge)……Liverpool Show Title Intent With Record-Breaking Win At The Bridge

Match Report Here. Awesome Game. Very Exciting. The Goal may have been lucky, but the result was not. Alonso got his goal via a Bosingwa deflection, but could have just as easily gotten a second one with an amazing free kick which hit the post. Overall a great game, and it ended Chelsea’s 86 unbeaten record at Stamford Bridge.

Portsmouth (Away at Fratton Park)……Liverpool Stay On Top After Gerrard Penalty

Match Report Here. Pretty boring game. Very few chances. LFC seemed to be not inspired (which seems so unlike the recent team attitude). Still, because of a penalty, taken by the captain, Liverpool stayed on top.

Tottenham (Away At White Hart Lane)……Liverpool Lose Top Spot.

Match Reports Here and Here. Frustrating Game for Liverpool fans. Not because of the result, but because of “what could and should have been”. Liverpool should have scored a few more goals, but were denied by the posts/bar. It seems that there are some new comeback kings in the Premier League, with the winner coming with only a few minutes to go. Chelsea won their game to gain top spot again.

Atletico Madrid (Second Leg…..At Anfield)……Gerrard Rescues A Point For Liverpool

Match Report Here. Was a pretty good game. Lots of missed chances (3 or 4 of them being Agger from corners or such). Should have been a Liverpool win, although that does not mean that Atetico played badly. They played very well. But Liverpool could have ended the game before Atletico got in their groove. In the end, Gerrard earned a penalty and rescued a point (In The End – 95th Minute). Some say that they didn’t deserve that penalty. Well be that as it may, Liverpool deserved 3 other penalties, but didn’t get them, so I guess it sorta balances out (oh wait, no it doesn’t!).

The game was an incredibly exciting one, although it made Liverpool fans around the world bite their nails throughout the 90 minutes of play, as Liverpool have started to make a habit of doing. Wigan played extremely well..and probably deserved a bit more from the game (as do all the teams Liverpool make their comebacks against…Man City, Middlesborough, etc.) Wigan took the lead through new signing Amr Zaki (Who looks like he can cause a heck of alot of problems) after a misunderstanding between Reina and Agger caused Zaki to get the goal. Then Agger, who probably felt bad for giving the first goal away, made up for his fault by dribbling the ball across the field, one-two ing with Riera, skipping past a defender, and passing to Kuyt, and the result was the equaliser. Zaki then caused more tension for Liverpool when he scored an AMAZING goal, right before half-time. Then came the time that some are saying changed the match. Valencia (winger) was booked twice, resulting in a send off. Then, near the end, at around the 80th minute, Liverpool’s Riera (who played pretty well) scored his first goal for his new club, and then the comeback was completed by Kuyt’s second goal, which was a dulled-down version of Zaki’s second goal. The Wigan Boss Steve Bruce was disappointed because of the red card received by Valencia (He also got sent off playing for his country, Ecuador in the world cup qualifiers) for a challenge on Alonso (This is the third time in three matches that someone has gotten sent off for a challenge on Alonso). Liverpool performed an awesome comeback (not like Istanbul, obviously) against new rich-boys Manchester City. Two goals conceded before half-time left Liverpool losing 2-0 at the break, but a brace from Torres and a late winner from Dirk Kuyt (first PL goal since November 2007) made sure Liverpool obtained maximum points from the fixture. All would have been well for Liverpool, but an injury to Star Defender Skrtel has soured at least a little bit of the joyous feeling after the great win. He is expected to be out for awhile (awhile = more than a month, but not sure yet, waiting for scan results). This means that finally Agger is given a chance (I am in NO WAY saying that i’m happy about the injury, but this is one positive we can take away from the situation) to shine. The Man City players and fans should be really disappointed about the result, as is Mark Hughes. They played very well in the first half, not giving Liverpool many chances, except for a couple of chances by Kuyt, one of which should have been a goal. Manchester City were reduced to ten men a short while after Torres’s first goal, and that seemed to have changed the game dramatically, after a tackle on Alonso by full-back Zabaleta. Keane Celebrates

Gerrard Tally

The recent century-hitter Gerrard joined an elite of 16 when he scored a stunning free kick against PSV, and after the match, Benitez applauded him as the best in the world, and said that he could easily double his tally before the end of his career. I personally don’t think he can. Because he’s 28 now, in five years he’ll be 33. He probably won’t be able to score 20 goals a season for five seasons straight. Then again, it IS Gerrard, anything could happen.

Riera Returns

Riera may return to his former club when Liverpool go to the City of Manchester Stadium tomorrow. He played 19 times and scored once during his unsuccessful spell at City.

Keane’s First Goal

Keane got his first LFC goal against PSV and that will probably put some pressure off of him. His first goal came after 10 games. Watch the goal here. You can see Keane celebrating with his famous backflip and shooting thing that he does. Even though he got his first goal, people will probably be waiting for his 1st LEAGUE goal now. Hopefully, it will come soon and so will many more goals.

Agger?

Madrid was apparently very interested in Agger, putting him on the “top of the list” of January transfers, even thoguh both Rafa and Agger have denied such claims. Rafa has actually said that the same people who are reported as saying that they want Agger have faxed Benitez personally, saying that they don’t know what the reports are talking about.

The game was awesome! Liverpool dominated in every way possible. They scored in the 4th minute thanks to Dirk Kuyt (even though it could have been Torres, but the goalkeeper superbly saved his shot). Then came Robbie Keane’s goal (Torres cross) which was followed by his trademark celebration. And lastly, Steven Gerrard shot a free kick to get his 100th goal for the club he’s been at since his childhood. Match Reports Here, Here, and Here. The 1 goal from PSV almost came outta nowhere as Danny Koeverman scored a few minutes after Gerrard’s one, although it didn’t really change the atmosphere at all. The goal was pretty good though. After the first goal, I thought it was gonna be a goalfest, but Liverpool slowed down after that, and even more after the second goal, playing comfortably, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
