Keane Nets KOP switch
Robbie Keane will join Liverpool early next week in a five-year deal that will earn him over £20m.
The Spurs striker will have a medical at Anfield next week before signing a contract thought to be worth around £90,000-a-week.
Liverpool will initially pay an £18m fee for the Republic of Ireland star, after talks resumed when Keane was left out of the Tottenham side for a friendly in Alicante on Thursday.
It is understood he was left out with the agreement of coach Juande Ramos.
Keane was given the option of playing to keep up his fitness, but decided not to risk an injury that could scupper his switch to Merseyside.
Liverpool fly out to Spain on Tuesday ahead of Wednesday’s friendly with Villarreal and, if the paperwork is completed in time, Keane could make his debut in El Madrigal.
The Keane deal means Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez must now decide whether to maintain his interest in Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry or revert to other, less expensive, targets such as Middlesbrough’s Stewart Downing and Espanyol’s Albert Riera.
