Liverpool’s Riise To Transfer To AS Roma
Norwegian International John Arne Riise is hopeful that Liverpool are prepared to compromise on their asking price, so that he can join Serie A side AS Roma.
The 27 year-old has spoken for the first time of his desire to leave the Premier League club in order to seek ‘new challenges’.
Roma coach Luciano Spalletti recently confirmed his interest in the versatile left back, saying Riise ‘can give a different dimension’, and ‘Riise has the qualities we are looking for’.
Riise joined Liverpool in 2001 from Ligue 1 team AS Monaco, and Reds manager Rafa Benitez admitted at the end of last season that he would allow Riise to end his seven-year stay at Anfield if ‘the right price’ was on the table.
Liverpool want £5million for the player, but Riise hopes that the Premiership club can come down on the price, in order to allow him to move to the Italian giants.
“That was nice what was said by the coach (Spalletti), but this is only something I have heard from media reports,” Riise told VG.
“I have only one year of my contract left, so the price is lower than a year ago – 50 million Norwegain Kroner seems a little high for me.
“I need to play and need to be in a team where I can become better, because I know I can become better.
“When you change club, you get a kick-start and a set of new challenges.”
