Degen Aiming To Bow Out In Style
Philip Degen will be hoping to make his first and last appearance of Euro 2008 tonight as host nation Switzerland look to bow out of the competition with a win against much-fancied Portugal in Basel.
The full-back – who will sign for Liverpool on July 1 – was an unused substitute in his country’s first two Group A matches as they slumped to successive defeats against both the Czech Republic and Turkey.
But the defender will be hoping it’s a case of third time lucky at St Jakob Park, as Kobi Kuhn’s men look to bounce back against a Portugal side who have already booked their place in the quarter-finals of the tournament as Group A winners.
But I wonder, is he really good enough for Liverpool, because if he was, why would he be an unused substitute? I guess we’ll all see next season.
